Affordable Sunset Cruises in Charleston: What a Seat Actually Costs

People ask me what a sunset cruise costs in Charleston and then brace themselves, like I'm about to read them a menu with fourteen tiers on it. I'm not. There are two numbers on our whole sunset operation, and I'll give you both right now: $59 for an adult seat on the nightly shared cruise, $49 for a child 12 and under. If you want the boat to yourselves instead, a private charter starts at $375 for one to four guests. That's the entire pricing conversation.

The shared seat is the affordable way on

The shared cruise is our nightly public departure. You buy only the seats you need and you ride with other guests who did the same. Two adults and a kid comes to $167 before the card fee — for two hours on Charleston Harbor at the best light of the day. You get the same boat, the same captain, the same dolphins, and the same view of the Ravenel Bridge as anyone who chartered the whole vessel that week.

That's worth saying plainly, because people assume the cheap option is a lesser version of the trip. It isn't. The only thing you're giving up on a shared seat is privacy.

What's already included — so you're not nickel-and-dimed

The BYOB policy is the quiet money-saver. Bring whatever you want to drink in cans or plastic — no glass on deck — and you'll pay grocery-store prices instead of bar prices for the same two hours. A cooler of your own drinks is a genuinely better deal than any bar package a boat could sell you, which is exactly why we don't sell one.

When the private charter is actually the cheaper choice

Here's the math nobody at the dock runs for you. At $59 a head, a group of seven adults is $413 in shared seats. A private charter for that group is in the same neighborhood — and you get the entire Roamer IV instead of a bench. Somewhere around six to eight people, private stops being the splurge and starts being the sensible option. If you're booking for a group, price both before you assume the per-seat route is the frugal one.

Honest ways to keep the cost down

• Book the shared departure rather than the whole boat if it's just two or three of you
• Count your children separately — 12 and under ride at $49, not the adult rate
• Bring your own drinks and snacks instead of eating downtown beforehand
• Park at our dock at 100 Church St in Mt. Pleasant instead of paying for a downtown garage

And one thing to budget for so it isn't a surprise: every price above is the base rate, and a 3% card surcharge is added at checkout. I'd rather you read that here than find it at the bottom of your receipt.

Where you board

Shem Creek, 100 Church St, Mt. Pleasant — about 14 minutes from downtown Charleston, with parking on site. Boarding opens 15 minutes before we cast off, so be dockside by 6:15 PM for the 6:30 PM departure. Come a little early if you can; the creek itself is worth a look before you're on it.
