Charleston Corporate Events on the Water: Team Building by Boat

Quick Answer

A private boat charter is one of the easiest corporate team-building moves in Charleston: book the whole boat (1–23 guests aboard the Roamer IV), pick a harbor cruise, sunset, dolphin run, or a hands-on fossil excursion, and bring your own food and drinks. Charters start at $375 for up to 4 guests; shared fossil hunts run $125 per person. Tell us your group size and we'll build the itinerary.

A conference room is a hard place to get a team to loosen up. A boat on Charleston Harbor is an easy one. Whether you're hosting an off-site, entertaining clients, or rewarding the team after a big quarter, a private charter gets everyone out of the office and into something they'll actually remember — and we handle the boat, the captain, and the route so you can just show up.

Why Take the Team Out on the Water

On a private charter the whole boat is yours, so there's no sharing with strangers and the day runs on your schedule. A U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captain does the driving and the safety briefing; you set the vibe. It's a low-effort way to get people talking who normally only meet over email.

  • The whole boat to your group — no strangers, your timeline
  • A licensed captain handles navigation and safety; you just enjoy it
  • Bring your own food and drinks — cater it or keep it casual
  • An easy yes for off-sites, client entertainment, and team rewards

Your Options: Cruises and Fossil Excursions

Most corporate groups pick one of two directions — a relaxed cruise, or a hands-on fossil excursion that doubles as a team activity. You can also mix them: a harbor cruise out, a shark tooth stop, and back.

  • Charleston harbor cruise — the skyline, Fort Sumter, and the Ravenel Bridge
  • Sunset cruise — golden-hour views, the easy crowd-pleaser
  • Dolphin watching — bottlenose dolphins in the creeks and harbor
  • Shark tooth & fossil excursion — a hands-on, collaborative team activity

How Many People — and What It Costs

Our largest vessel, the Roamer IV, seats up to 23 guests, and we can run multi-boat fleets for bigger groups. Private charters start at $375 for up to 4 guests and scale by group size; the Roamer IV runs about $900 for up to 12 guests and $1,100–$1,200 for 13–23. Prefer the fossil route? Shared shark tooth hunting seats are $125 per person. All prices are the base rate, with a 3% card surcharge at checkout.

Fossil Excursions as a Team-Building Activity

The shark tooth and fossil excursion is the sleeper hit for corporate groups. Instead of a forced trust-fall, the team spreads out on a quiet beach and hunts real fossilized megalodon, mako, and tiger teeth — and everyone keeps what they find. It's collaborative without feeling like work, and people leave with a souvenir and a story.

Planning Notes: Booking, Weather, Food & Drink

Booking is simple: send us your group size, date, and the kind of day you want, and we'll build the itinerary and send a quote — usually same day. Every captain is U.S. Coast Guard-licensed, life jackets are aboard, and you're welcome to bring your own food and drinks. Charters only cancel for genuinely unsafe weather, in which case we reschedule or refund.

When you're ready, start on our Charleston corporate events page for a custom quote, or call (843) 508-1600 and we'll plan it over the phone. Tell us the group and the vibe — we'll handle the rest.
